By standardizing all hospitals and mandating that they make their charges public, the law seeks to provide patients with clear information about medical costs, facilitating informed decision-making and minimizing unexpected expenses. Ferguson remarked, “This law will empower Ohioans with clear, upfront information about the costs of medical care,” emphasizing the importance of informed patient choices in avoiding surprise bills.
Barhorst highlighted the broader implications of the legislation for healthcare markets. “This bill is going to establish a true free market in healthcare,” he said. The goal is to encourage partnerships between patients and employer-sponsored plans to boost transparency and healthcare quality, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for Ohio residents.
