State Representative Lauren McNally has announced the allocation of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding to support families and workforce development in Ohio's 59th district. The program aims to assist struggling families, support children, and encourage workforce initiatives.
"It is great to see that the funding granted to our region will go towards programs that not only support families as a whole but also, our youth directly," said Rep. McNally. "I'm eager to see the profound impact it will have on the community."
TANF is a federally funded, state-led initiative known widely as welfare. It provides financial assistance for food, housing, home energy, childcare, and job training.
The statewide funds amounting to $10,151,250 were released for FY25 under HB 33. These funds are directed toward various initiatives targeting residents in Ohio’s 59th district:
- Up to $100,000 will be allocated to the Brightside Project for resources and social-emotional development support for eligible children in Columbiana County.
- Up to $935,000 will assist Operation Warm in providing new coats and shoes to eligible children statewide.
- Up to $300,000 will help Ohio Association of Foodbanks offer summertime food assistance statewide.
- Up to $1 million is earmarked for Ohio Suicide Prevention's resources and strategies across several counties including Franklin and Cuyahoga.
- Another $1 million is set aside for Ohio Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs' support services at clubs across regions like Greater Cincinnati and Youngstown.
