State Representative Lauren McNally announced a significant financial boost for Mahoning and Columbiana Counties, with $1 million allocated for demolition projects. This funding comes from the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program, part of the Department of Development's latest awards.
"I’m grateful for the attention that our community is receiving from the latest round of demolition awards," stated Rep. McNally. "Not only does this ensure that our neighborhood is free of hazardous substances, it allows us to create economic opportunities that will continue to make our district thrive."
Both counties are set to receive $500,000 each. Details on specific sites are available through provided resources.
The Brownfield Remediation Program grants aid in cleaning up brownfield sites, targeting hazardous substances or petroleum at industrial or commercial properties. Meanwhile, the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program focuses on demolishing non-brownfield commercial and residential buildings and revitalizing these areas.
Today's announcement marks the seventh funding round under this program, allocating $33.2 million to demolish 1,091 vacant structures across 65 counties in Ohio. A portion of funds was reserved for all 88 counties in Ohio, with remaining funds distributed based on application order. The initiative aims to clear space for new economic ventures by addressing contamination issues or removing derelict buildings.
