State Representative Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) has announced the release of the 2023-2024 School Report Card data by the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW). These report cards are intended to provide parents, communities, educators, and policymakers with insights into the performance of districts and schools. The goal is to highlight achievements and successes while identifying areas needing improvement.

Rep. McNally stated, "My office immediately went to work reviewing these scores and asking questions. We know that report card grades triggered an Academic Distress Commission for Youngstown City Schools and this data is being used to determine the progress being made on their academic improvement plan." She added that they have reached out to DEW for discussions and are open to community concerns which will be shared with DEW.

In 2021, Ohio's accountability law was amended by the Ohio General Assembly. Since 2022, schools have been evaluated using a 1–5 star rating system across five categories: achievement, progress, early literacy, gap closing, and graduation.

The Ohio House Democrats have put forward the Learning & Education Advancement Package (LEAP) Initiative. This legislation aims to reaffirm K-12 public education as a priority for Democrats in Ohio by setting goals and standards for the state's education system. The initiative emphasizes support for all children’s education in Ohio irrespective of race, gender, income, or location.

Further details can be accessed on the website of Ohio’s Department of Education and Workforce.
