Fire and Police Departments Awarded Grant Funding

The Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Sidney Police Department have been awarded $46,500 through the Ohio First Responder Recruitment, Retention and Resilience program. The funding will be used to implement a program called “Protecting the Protectors”.

As a part of the new program, the Robertson Brain Health Institute will provide individualistic ‘brain chemistry’ studies to allow participants to gain understanding and insight in to their unique brain chemistry. This insight will allow them to alter certain behaviors (i.e. sleep, dietary, exercise, etc…), thus allowing them to be more mentally/emotionally resilient as well as to perform at an optimal physical level.

A total of 26 agencies will receive $1.67 million to help them support the wellness needs of law enforcement officers, dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) in the first round of the program.

In addition, the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services was also awarded $6,000 through the Ohio TechCred program which will allow three department members to complete paramedic training.

TechCred helps Ohioans learn new skills and helps employers build a stronger workforce with the skills needed in a technology-infused economy.
