Teen Law Enforcement Academy Planned

The Sidney Police Department is pleased to announce that an informal local law enforcement workshop in order to educate local high school aged students about their local police department, the profession of policing, and enhance the communication between the youth residents of Sidney and the police who serve them will be held in June. The free workshop will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. June 6 through June 8, 2022, at the Sidney Police Department Training Room, 234 W. Court Street.

Participants are encouraged to come to class with questions, participate in open dialogue, and advise staff of comments, concerns, and areas for improvement. Participants will also receive a free shirt for the workshop and lunch will be provided.

Topics that will covered during the course include:

  • Drug investigations and enforcement
  • Cyber crime, Identity Theft, Fraud and Scams
  • Law Enforcement Technology
  • Tours of the Police Department, Jail and Court
  • Use of Force
  • Police K-9s
  • Active Shooter
  • Investigations and Crime Scene Management
  • And more….
To apply for the workshop, you must be a Shelby County student in the 9-12th grades. The deadline to submit an application is May 2, 2022. Applications can be downloaded from the website.
