City in Contention for 1,200 New Jobs

Jobs

Earlier this week Governor DeWine formally announced State level incentives, including an Ohio Tax Credit Authority 2.095%, 15-year job creation tax credit, intended to secure a Sidney location for SEMCORP Manufacturing USA LLC. If selected as the final site SEMCORP, an electric vehicle battery company, in phase one will create nearly 1,200 new jobs with an estimated annual payroll of $75 million in Sidney.

This announcement marks several months of meetings and negotiations with company representatives. I want to commend all the staff members involved in the process.

SEMCORP produces separator film used within lithium-ion batteries. The company’s main focus is within the electric vehicle battery market with a division focused in consumer electronics and energy storage systems.

The milestone approval from the State is another step in a long line to get to where we are. The city is still underway with finalizing its incentive package, which will still need consideration and approval by City Council. However, these jobs and this company will continue Sidney’s proud history of being a manufacturing powerhouse in Shelby County and the entire State. Our goal is to continue seeing our city set new standards and constantly reinvent itself through state-of-the-art manufacturing that will power the future of our great region!

The Sidney site is in competition with a site in Texas for the company’s first North American manufacturing presence.

In April, City Council will begin considering legislation to approve various local incentive packages with relation to the SEMCORP project.
